A Western Michigan University student from Lisle was killed in a suspected drunken driving incident in Kalamazoo, Michigan
Saturday at 2:30 a.m. local time, Kalamazoo police officers arrived to the 2700 block of West Michigan Avenue in Kalamazoo
They found a person had been struck by a car on the road, and the driver had gone
The victim is Kaylee Gansberg, 21-year old girl, died a few hours later
Officers from Kalamazoo contacted the suspected driver at his city residence shortly after the accident
The 22-year-old Kalamazoo boy was arrested and brought to the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges relating to his intoxication at the time of the accident
On Sunday, members of the Chi Omega sorority at Western Michigan University lamented Gansberg's passing
They described her as "the kindest, most outgoing and artistic person" and "everyone's friend."
After the accident, her parents rushed to her bedside in Kalamazoo
Her father Keith Gansberg said, "She had her whole life ahead of her, And it was all taken away by this one incident."
Her mother Michele Gansberg said,"We were there for her first heartbeat, and we were there for the last."
The university said in a statement, "We are saddened by this terrible loss of a young life cut short and extend our condolences to Kaylee's family and other loved ones,"
